Self-discipline is entirely up to you. You can make or break your own habits. No excuses. People who exercise self-disicpline have an effect on everyone around them. They are tremendouly influential in motivating thier co-workers and colleagues. Conversely, undisciplined people can have a lousy influence.
Take it from me, someone who lost twenty-seven pounds in less than a year. I learned a lot about self-discipline and about how to influence others while trying to make the Olympic team in 1976. I was struggling with my knee injury. It required surgery-leaving a twelve-inch scar that still curls along the inside of my knee-and in those days we didn't know as much about rehab. I gained a lot of weight and couldn't move very well. My chances didn't look good. I was basically told by Bill Wall, executive director of the Amateur Basketball Association of the USA, and Billie Moore, the head coach, that I didn't have a chance.
They said it to me to challenge me, and it worked. I spent the better part of a year in the gym. I gave up red meat. I worked out for close to six hours a day. As the saying goes, I played through pain.
