THOUGHTS FROM GEORGE ALLEN

The following comes from George Allen, the former coach of the Washington Redskins.

  • Start early, and work late. Have energy-drive-careful listener-care for people. Be a self-starter.

  • How to motivate yourself? Compare yourself with someone of similar age/career.

  • Work hard and stay positive all day.

  • The world belongs to those who aim for 110%, who believe that the future is now,
who think there is no off-season and who don’t take long lunch hours. People think they want something but when it comes to a little work, they fall short.

  • Be organized. Always do what you believe.

  • If you’re not in shape, your problems will lick you.

  • Surround yourself with positive people and things. Attack your problems one at a time.

  • Discipline yourself to be a self-starter. Organize the details of your life. Think professionally - maturely.

Allen’s Game Plan After Your Losing Job:
Don’t panic. Be yourself. Have no regrets. Don’t count on friends for help. Get out of the house. Work out, physically hard. Do something you always wanted to do. Plant a seed every day. Ask for advice from someone you respect. Help someone who needs it. Your biggest problem is being negative, be positive. Do something to improve every day. Be direct, call for jobs yourself. Keep fighting. Keep reading.
