MOTION PRINCIPLES

Over the next couple of days I will be posting some notes from some of the clinics I attended while at the Final Four. If you are interested you can go to the WBCA website and there is a section where you can actually download and print most of the handouts from the clinics. There are some very good things on there. Let me know if you have trouble downloading it and I can send you some things.

Here are a few things from Matt Bollant the head coach at the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay. He spoke on the 4 out 1 in motion offense.

Benefits of running the motion offense:
1) Get to higher level than sets
2) Makes you better defensively
3) Only as good as you pass and catch

To run the motion you need to recruit unselfish players and demand that they remain unselfish.

Here are some motion concepts he spoke on:

1) Not always running to the ball
2) Ball moves to action, not action to the ball
3) Slow to dribble-miss opportunities if you dribble-pass makes defense make quicker mental transitions
4) Willing to screen-emphasize it and praise it
5) Willing to cut hard for teammates-reward them if they are open
6) Slow to move to ball-better to not over move

*Do passing drills everyday

*Be tough with the ball- be specific-own your space

1) Play form triple threat-wrist locked and cocked
2) Catch the ball with your feet in the air
3) Pass wiht feet on the floor
4) Fake a pass to make a pass-even against a man defense
5) Make easy pass-start of the year this is a great point of emphasis
6) See the weakside

Concepts of passing-most under taught fundamental
1) triple threat
2) fake a pass to make a pass-show passing lanes
3) work one side of your bofy-vertical fakes and not 45 of them
4) step when you pass

Concepts of Recieving
1) catch with feet in the air
2) early hand targets-show where you want the ball
3) ball in the air-feet in the air
4) run through leather
5) block and tuck on catch
